So Bittersweet…

These two handsome fellows are members of my first NILMDTS family.  Their little brother W was born with health issues that would mean he would only live a few hours.  W may have not had a long time here but he had a lifetime’s worth of love in that room with his family.  It was a true honor to photograph that love and document W’s life.  He and this family will be in my heart forever.

So it is bittersweet pleasure to photograph the boys now before they leave Long Island and move across the country to San Diego.  I understand that there are “many palm trees” there as per the boys…and of course Lego Land!  I know the O’s will have a wonderful life in sunny California and I wish them all the best, but I will be sad that they are so far away! I think I might just have to make a little trip west!

These guys really love each other. They did this on their own without prompting!

The Reluctant Subject

T’s mom was a bit concerned about our photoshoot.  T is a fun loving boy but having his photo taken is not on his list of fun things to do.  Our plan was not to make a “thing” about having photos taken but we would just enjoy a beautiful nature park that T loves.  I also thought it might be fun to have a camera for T to take some of his own shots.  In the end we had great fun and I think we ended up with some great shots.  I hope mom will agree with a few little previews here.  I will have your gallery up soon but here are a few of my initial favorites.  Enjoy!

Where it all began

Some families you photograph for so many years, you begin to feel like they are a part of your family.  The R family is a perfect example of this.  Mom and Dad celebrated their 10th anniversary this year and wanted to do a photograph in Connecticut on the bench where it all began.

And oh how happy I am that there was that beginning because we now have H, G and Z!  I have photographed each of these little cuties from birth and am always amazed at how fast they grow and how beautiful they are year after year.  These little guys are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside.  My dog Sophie loves them as well because H and G insist that she come along every year!  If you look at the photos on the blog header you will see Dad with H and G when they were little ones at the beach.  The R’s are also the poster family for the question “what to wear”!  Mom has a terrific knack for putting together the perfect combination of outfits every year.

I can’t wait to design this years holiday card!

We had to work in the morning when the sun was a bit strong but would thankfully go behind the clouds for a while. Of course, having H and G as my assistance was a terrific help. Thanks girlies!

At the beach with the H family

The H family lives in one of the most wonderful beach communities on Long Island.  My husband and I lived there when we were first married and I have fond memories of the wonderful summers we had on those beautiful beaches.  I was delighted when the H family contacted me to do their family portrait in this lovely setting.  The H kids, J and his little sister B are two of the cutest little ones I have ever met.  We had great fun and finished right when the sky opened up!

Thanks H family for a great time.  Your gallery will be up very soon!

What to Wear?

This is the first question I am asked when I book a session.  We now offer a “What to Wear” guide that is sent to each client when their session is booked.  The “rule” used to be that everyone had matching tops, either white or black and jeans or khakis with dresses for mom and the girls.  There are other options if you want to mix it up a bit that are included in our new guide that will still produce a beautiful portrait but with a little extra individuality.  The more traditional look is still popular but if you want to do something a little different, our guide will show you how to break the rules with great results.  The guide also includes many resources for children’s wear to inspire you.

Babies Babies Everywhere!

Yesterday I had the great pleasure to photograph 6 month old twins and their 5 month old cousin.  Twins always facinate me and these cuties were no exception.  There were babies everywhere.  These were active little ones too!  So much fun!

I Love Babies!

This little cutie is one of my “Year One” clients.  We will see little P grow up in the next year.  She is now 10 weeks and so sweet.  Not once did this baby fuss!  That never happens!  We will be photographing P again at 6mths, 9mths, and on her 1st birthday.  I love these sessions.  To watch these sweet babies grow and change over the year is priceless.

For more information on the limited edition “life as it happens” sessions, see the “details” page on my site.  SMP offers a baby registry that is a great way to give expecting parents the ultimate gift that will be treasured forever!

One of My Favorite Families

Today I got to photograph the R family.  I have been photographing this beautiful family for about 6 years.  Needless to say it is an easy time since the kids have got this being photographed thing down!  If you have seen my site, you will recognize these guys.  Total cutie pies!

Someone is getting a baby brother!

Cute little A has a new brother.  Before that great event, A’s mom wanted to document the time when A was the one and only.  We know giving up that esteemed family position will probably be a little tough in the beginning, but being a big sister will be so much fun!  A loves her mom, dad and her blankie.

Welcome!

Welcome to the new “…life as it happens” blog!  This is the place to check out new work, new products and news at SMP.  I hope you will stop by often to experience …life as it happens!
